Nikon Labophot Phase Set.
Works great with 5 objectives for Phase

received 19 Oct 2022

The condenser, although mostly plastic, feels substantial and operates smoothly.
The turrent has 6 positions:
  • O - aperture
  • DF
  • Ph1
  • Ph2
  • Ph3
  • Ph4
5 objectives:
  • Ph1 DL E Plan 10/0.25 160/-
  • Ph2 DL 20/0.4 160/1.2     <- seemingly weird, but common..(inverted?)
  • Ph3 DL E Plan 40/0.65 160/0.17
  • Ph4 DL E Plan 100/1.25 oil 160/0.17
  • Zeiss Ph2 Plan 40/0.65 160/0.17
Nikon's 1989 CF objective list does not specify cover glass thickness per objective:

a turret and Ph2 Plan 20/0.50 160/0.17 objective were ordered

First phase contrast

20 Oct 2022, using Cambridge Instruments Lillium Anthers slide,
images captured by iPhone SE in Celestron NexYZ 3 axis Universal Smartphone Adapter,
leveled using a camera hot shoe level and clamped to a Nikon CFWN10x/20,
which has diopter adjustment enabling parfocality in trinoculer type T photo tube:

First are downscaled uncropped images, showing field coverage,
then cropped but unscaled images (click for full scale):

  • Considering field aperture vignetting in uncropped images,
trinocular eyepiece is evidently not coaxial with binoculars.
  • Aligning phase annuli by (my) eye with centering telescope is problematic;
a video camera to HDTV is wanted.
  • Green illumination reportedly yields better phase contrast images than does white.
The non-phase turret position (with aperture diaphragm) has excessive chromatic aberrations around the field diaphragm edge.
