ProtoSimTech PT2 pedal set

loose load cell mount Purchased used 5 Oct 2021;  received 14 Oct.  Immediatedly noticed an issue with load cell mount:
  • mitigated by adding shims in slots

ProtoSimTech pedals were regarded as a good value and positively reviewed by Barry Rowland:

batch variations Barry's is among few other PT2s seen with pedal pivot bearings instead of bushings.
  • Barry's PT2 review version had a load cell amplifier gain potentiometer that was missing on mine.
PT2 batch 3 and earlier used a 12-bit DSD controller.
  • My RaceDepartment PT2 comments
  • For batch PT2 4 and later, load cell gain is adjusted by Bodner LC-USB software
  • My throttle pedal bump stop has jam nuts above and below hex crossmember,
while Barry's and the PT2 improvements video demonstrated hex socket jam screws...
  • By batch 8, bump stop adjustment had reverted to double jam nuts.
  • Chris built 9 batches;  here are his YouTube videos
  • Many online images show double bearings on each clutch ramp;  mine was received with single bearings.
  • bolted (not tabs in slots) load cell:

Current issue

Clunk at end of preload
Rigid spacer inside preload spring wants rubber washers to damp contact.
Brake pedal threaded rod 5.8mm (M6) o.d.; elastomer tube 7.8mm (5/16) o.d.
Brake elastomer stack disassembly for preload damping encouraged experimenting with:
Heusinkveld Elastomer Kit (manual) Dimensionally compatible with PT2 and advertised as providing:
  • much more progressive brake feel
  • firmer bump and rebound
  • no degradation over 1 million cycles
  • 19mm hard elastomer
  • 19, 28, 37mm soft elastomers

Spacers are wanted to match PT2 elastomer tube length:
  • top center:  black nylon washers included in Heusinkveld kit for reducing travel;
    redundant to PT2's preload adjustment.
  • PT2 black elastomers:  left of hard Heusinkveld elastomer and improvised spacers

Elastomer restacked:  Heusinkveld hard + one PT2 black

Rubber washers around preload spring reduced "clunk" and increased feel credibility.
