zombie pedal:  dead pedal with a shaker

Migrating from heavily modified G29 pedals to PT2 was less than game-changing
  • adding a heel-toe throttle pedal helped
  • eliminating break load cell lost motion also helped
  • eventual conclusion:  a dead pedal was wanted,
having always used one on track to help anchor butt in seat
  • dead pedal would be a good place to add engine vibration

Assetto Corsa, VR and tactile feedback

My first tactile experience was clicking into Assetto Corsa's E30 M3 Evo
wearing a Samsung Odyssey WMR headset.
  • The SRS ShakeSeat suddenly came alive,
strongly evocative of real E30 M3 track car experience.
  • Sadly, engine vibrations confounded other, more useful Shakeseat feedback:
    tire slip.
  • Useful wins over immersion, for me,
but dead pedal engine vibration need not be distracting.
  • While a dead pedal should not deflect from foot pressure,
    vibrating laterally should be fine.

fabrication details For squaring the carriage bolt to to its mounting surface,
a parallel fender washer is wanted for sandwiching.
  • match a hole saw to the fender washer o.d.

  • clamp the dead pedal to the drill press table,
so that hole saw cuts will be concentric with the carriage bolt hole

  • run the hole saw down until it barely touches the lowest web

  • we now know how deep to trim for 4 points of parallel fender washer contact

  • trimmed

  • fender washer should be concentric to the carriage bolt hole and parallel to that surface

  • file holes square to engage carriage bolt

  • Space exciter to clear dead pedal webbing.
Compress split lock washer with first nut

then jam with second nut;  add spacing to taste

Locate carriage bolt hole so that foot will not contact the shaker.

Fabricated dead pedal bracket is clearanced for rigid dead pedal engagement.

    >Neoprene pad between bracket and pedal base can be resized to tune lateral shaking

  • ready to mount
